More than 20 years ago my father installed a Sailomat 3040 wind ane self steering on the Trotamar. Unfortunately it is not strong enough to control the boat at strong weather situations. I am sailing with my wife and little child and just at strong weather I do not like to be standing at the ruder. Does anybody have better experiences with another system. I heard that there must be two Amphitrites using the Bouvaan or Holland Windvane but I do not have contact to them. I am thinking of installing this system. I will be grateful for any advice, Regards Joan

Hi I have an Amphitrite 43 with a "Monitor" wind vane fitted. I have found this to work very well. You can see some photographs on the Monitor website, or put my boat name "lancerno1" into google

Hello Brian, thank you for your response. I can not find your photographs nor can I contact the Monitor web site, maybe you could send me directly a few photographs. I have two questions:- How do you connect the pendulum with the wheel pulley? The distance is large and there are different levels.- How does it work at hard weather conditions? Regards, Joan

Hi Joan

The pendulum is connected to the pulley wheel using just 2 double blocks one on the aft pulpit and one on the port coaming opposite the wheel. The steering lines go across the aft deck on the port side and have not been any problem. I will try to show you photographs.

They can be seen here:

The wind vane does work very well, I have used it in winds up to force 6 and the higher the wind the stronger the steering,

Salut Joan

Amicalement,  Brian

Thank you Brian, it will be a difficult decision, there are a few very similar systems and they are all expensive. I am thinking on the Pacific, the Holland Windwane, the South Atlantic or the Monitor.Regards, Joan
